The other night at Terry's work party, one of the men put together little video montage of what it is that they do at this command. It was really very moving to see how their efforts are just a small part of a global operation. In fact, it was said that his command actually oversees something like 15,000 people! I actually teared up a bit seeing how everything was working together and was a small part of the Navy which was then a small part of the entire US military machine.
Then today as I was listening to Pres. Obama's speech at Ft. Bragg commemorating the end of the war in Iraq, I became emotional. Again, listening to his words about the hardships that the military members and their families have endured really touched me. Although I come from a long line of military service, I have always felt somewhat inadequate in that I have merely been the daughter and wife of a service member. I feel like I need to be more proactive and do more for our military. Somehow be an active participant without being on active duty. I need to do more. Perhaps in this next year, I will be able to find more ways to reach out and give of my time to make a difference for our military members. I just have this intense and burning sense of patriotism and duty to our country and I need to put that passion to use. I can be of help to someone-I just need to explore my options of how to do that.
